Siddharth Jawahar Sentenced to 11 Years for Ponzi Scheme That Counted Travis Kelce Among Its Victims

Siddharth Jawahar, 38, was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison on Tuesday for orchestrating a Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors of millions of dollars and, for a time, counted Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce among its victims. The sentence, handed down in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, also includes an order to pay $31 million in restitution.

Jawahar had pleaded guilty in January to three counts of wire fraud. Prosecutors said he ran Swiftarc Capital LLC, a Texas-based investment company, from July 2016 until December 2023, using new investor money to repay earlier investors and to fund an extravagant personal lifestyle. The company took in more than $35 million, but only about $10 million was actually invested.

Kelce Named as Victim in Court

During the sentencing hearing, a prosecutor identified Kelce as one of the victims. A court reporter told NBC News about the mention. No details were discussed in court about how Kelce was victimized, and representatives for the NFL star did not respond to a request for comment. Jawahar’s attorney declined to comment on the Kelce connection.

Kelce is a high-profile name among a larger group of investors who lost money nationwide. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri.

How the Scheme Operated

According to the factual record, Jawahar operated a classic Ponzi scheme: money from new investors was used to pay off older investors, creating the illusion of returns. The fraud stretched from July 2016 to December 2023. Over that period, Swiftarc Capital LLC collected more than $35 million, but only about $10 million was put into actual investments. The rest went to repay earlier investors and to support Jawahar’s spending on private jets, luxury hotels, spending sprees, and private clubs.

Jawahar is undocumented. After his indictment, he attempted to coach a victim to provide a favorable statement and asked his sister to wipe his iPhone, according to the brief.

Sentencing Factors and Political Letter

U.S. District Judge Zachary Bluestone cited Jawahar’s failure to begin restitution as a major factor in the sentence. That failure weighed heavily against the defendant despite other arguments made on his behalf.

Before the sentencing, U.S. Rep. Sam Graves, a Missouri Republican, wrote a letter dated Sept. 10 requesting a maximum sentence of 48 months. Graves cited jail educational programs and said Jawahar had cooperated with authorities and chosen accountability. The judge ultimately imposed a much longer term.

Jawahar’s attorney called him a very good man and said his client had made serious mistakes and takes ownership of them. The attorney declined to comment on the Kelce connection. The defense’s arguments did not persuade the court to reduce the sentence below 11 years.

Restitution and Prison Term

Along with the 11-year prison term, Jawahar was ordered to pay $31 million in restitution to the victims. He remains in custody at a jail with educational programs.

The case highlights the scale of the fraud and the range of victims, from unnamed investors to a star athlete. The sentencing brings the criminal proceedings to a close, but the restitution order leaves a substantial financial obligation outstanding.
