Google has officially launched its “Live” features across Gmail, Docs, and Keep, moving them out of beta and into the hands of paying Google AI subscribers. The rollout is part of the company’s broader push to expand voice-based interactions with its Gemini Live assistant throughout its popular apps and services.
Gmail Live: Search and Ask Questions Naturally
Google first began testing Gmail Live in June, allowing users to search through their email inbox and ask questions using everyday language instead of relying on traditional search queries.
For example, a user could ask, “When is my child’s next school event?” and then follow up with another question like, “Does he need to bring anything for the field trip?” The feature then provides answers based on the information found in the user’s emails.
Gmail Live is designed to mimic human conversation. Users can interrupt the chat, change topics, or jump to a different question at any time. The interface also displays the conversation transcript on screen, along with links pointing to the specific emails that informed the answers, making it easy to verify sources.
Gmail Live is now available to subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans on both Android and iOS devices.
Docs Live: Organize Ideas and Build Documents
In Google Docs, the Docs Live feature helps users arrange and structure their thoughts into a clear document outline, guided by voice instructions.
When granted access to Google Drive and Google Chat, Docs Live can pull information from those services, as well as from Gmail and the web, to assist in drafting a document.
Docs Live is available on Android and iOS for subscribers on the Google AI Pro and Ultra plans.
Keep Live: Turn Spoken Ideas into Lists and Notes
Keep Live uses artificial intelligence to convert what users say aloud into organized lists and notes within Google Keep.
The feature goes beyond executing direct commands—it understands context and intent. For instance, it can place grocery items under a list titled “Kabsa dish ingredients” without requiring detailed instructions, and it can also add new items to an existing shopping list.
Keep Live is currently available on Android only for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, with potential for broader availability in the future.
