Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick delivered a candid assessment of his team’s performance following their emphatic 5-0 victory over Valencia at the Mestalla, blending satisfaction with a clear demand for improvement.

Speaking after the match, Flick expressed his delight at the comprehensive win but was quick to highlight areas where his side must evolve, particularly in managing matches and conserving energy over a demanding schedule.
“It was a fantastic match, we controlled it from the start. We dominated the game, and that’s what I aspire to,” Flick said, praising his players after they celebrated five goals during the encounter.
Focus on Points, Not Statistics
Barcelona have now scored 17 goals in their first four La Liga matches while conceding just two, but the German coach downplayed the significance of such numbers.
“For me, it’s only about the three points,” Flick stated, though he acknowledged his team possesses the quality needed to break down deep-lying defenses, exploit spaces, and attack effectively.

Flick emphasized that maintaining control was especially crucial given the challenging circumstances, with temperatures soaring to 34 degrees Celsius during the match.
“It’s good to see that, and we managed to control the game. We are happy,” he added.

“I don’t know if it’s necessary to say this after a 5-0 win, but we need to try to control the game better. There are many matches, and you always have to manage your energy,” he remarked.

The coach also addressed the yellow cards shown to Pau Cubarsí, Rodri, and Fermín López, expressing his acceptance of the referee’s decisions, particularly regarding Cubarsí’s booking.
“The first one, the one Cubarsí got, was deserved. We have to accept it, and the referee did a great job,” Flick concluded.
