Lautaro Martinez Inspires Inter Milan to Thrilling Comeback Win Over Napoli
Inter Milan produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Napoli 3-2 in a thrilling Serie A encounter, with Lautaro Martinez scoring twice, including a dramatic winner in stoppage time.
Inter Milan Maintain Top Spot
The defending champions moved to nine points at the top of the table, two points clear of second-placed Como. Milan and Juventus, who meet tomorrow in the same round of fixtures, are six points behind. Napoli, meanwhile, remained on three points in tenth place.
Napoli Take Control
Napoli broke the deadlock in the 50th minute through Matteo Politano, who found the net after earlier attempts were saved by Inter goalkeeper Giuseppe Martinez. Three minutes later, Rasmus Hojlund doubled the lead with a superb strike from the left side that Martinez failed to keep out.
Inter's Fightback
Inter refused to surrender, and Lautaro Martinez pulled one back in the 58th minute. A cross from the right was headed to the far post, where Federico Dimarco redirected it to Martinez, who finished past Alex Meret.
Inter grew in confidence and created several clear chances. In the 82nd minute, Marcus Thuram rose to meet Carlos Augusto’s cross and headed home to level the score.
Dramatic Late Winner
With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Lautaro Martinez struck in the first minute of second-half stoppage time. A defensive mix-up in the Napoli box allowed Manuel Akanji to send the ball to Martinez, who slotted it home to seal a stunning victory.
Earlier, Inter had threatened through Andy Diouf, whose second-minute shot was saved by Meret, and Dimarco, who hit the crossbar with a free kick in first-half stoppage time. Napoli also had chances, with Frank Anguissa testing Martinez in the sixth minute after a pass from Allison.
The final whistle confirmed a 3-2 win for Inter Milan, extending their unbeaten start to the season.
