Santos saw their campaign in the Brazilian Cup come to an end at the quarterfinal stage. The club suffered a 0-3 defeat to Palmeiras in the first leg, and the return match at their home ground ended in a goalless draw, sealing their elimination from the competition.

The 34-year-old Brazilian star took to his Instagram account to express his anger, specifically targeting the person responsible for maintaining the pitch at Vila Belmiro. In his post, Neymar wrote: “I would like to congratulate the ground maintenance worker at Vila Belmiro. Yesterday, the pitch was the worst ever, full of holes, because they had to level it the day before the match. Unbelievable!”
He went on to describe the difficulties his team faced during the game, adding: “Besides facing the opposing team, we were also fighting the pitch itself. On top of that, we had to make an extra effort to speed up and slow down the rhythm because the surface was so uneven. No wonder three players got injured in the first half. Congratulations then… what a poor job!”
