Folarin Balogun, the American striker born in New York, is facing yet another controversy following the collapse of his transfer to Everton. The deal, reportedly worth £40 million ($54 million), fell through at the last minute, and now Monaco’s sporting director has come forward with details that cast a shadow over the English club’s conduct.

Monaco's Sporting Director Speaks Out

In a press conference, Thiago Scuro, Monaco’s sporting director, explained the circumstances that led to the failed transfer. According to Scuro, Balogun underwent a medical examination at Everton on Tuesday. However, just four hours before the transfer window closed, the English club raised what Scuro described as “illogical” concerns regarding the medical results.

Scuro elaborated that the player ultimately decided not to sign the contracts at the last moment. Balogun reportedly felt uncomfortable with how Everton treated him, citing the medical procedures and the club’s questioning of his health status and future prospects.

Neither Everton nor Balogun have commented on Scuro’s statements, leaving the claims unchallenged for now.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

This latest development adds to a string of controversies surrounding the young forward. Balogun impressed during the World Cup with the US national team but was shown a red card in the Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In a highly unusual turn of events, FIFA decided to suspend the one-match ban following an intervention by US President Donald Trump, who contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to discuss the possibility of reviewing the red card decision.

As a result, Balogun was allowed to play in the Round of 16 match. However, he failed to make a significant impact, and the US team was eliminated after a 1-4 loss to Belgium.

Fallout from the FIFA Decision

The controversial decision to lift Balogun’s suspension sparked numerous complaints against FIFA. Balogun himself acknowledged that the cancellation of his ban caused a significant uproar that negatively affected the US national team.

Now, with the Everton transfer saga adding another layer of scrutiny, Balogun finds himself at the center of yet another football controversy.
