Xiaomi has introduced the Pad 9 Pro in China, a tablet that sits below the recently released Pad Pro Max but keeps a high-refresh display, a large battery and a slim chassis. The launch took place alongside new phones built on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series, and a standard Xiaomi Pad 9 also joined the lineup.

The Pad 9 Pro pairs a 12.5-inch display with a chassis that Xiaomi describes as 5.8mm thick and 580 grams (about 1.27 lbs) in weight. The screen refreshes at 144Hz and is rated for up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness. It is not an OLED panel, but it does carry Dolby Vision support, which should help with high-dynamic-range content.

Six speakers are included, a setup that points to entertainment as a major use case. The combination of a large, fast display and a multi-speaker array is aimed at video and gaming, while the slim build keeps the device portable.

Performance and memory

Inside, Xiaomi has opted for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC, described as a last-gen sub-flagship chip. Memory can be configured up to 16GB RAM, and storage tops out at 256GB. That hardware profile is suitable for demanding tasks, including PC game emulation, according to the brief.

The tablet runs HyperOS 4 out of the box and supports WiFi 7 for faster wireless connections. A USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port handles wired data and charging, and a 50MP rear camera is on board.

Battery and charging

Power comes from an 11,000mAh battery. Xiaomi claims up to 14.5 hours of playback, and the tablet supports 67W fast charging. The large cell and quick-charge support are intended to reduce downtime between sessions.

Accessories and productivity

Xiaomi is offering the Focus Stylus Pro with 16K pressure sensitivity, along with the Focus Keyboard, which includes a large trackpad. The tablet also supports PC-level productivity apps such as WPS for Pad and CapCut Pro, positioning it as a device that can handle work as well as media.

Pricing and configurations in China

The Pad 9 Pro starts at CNY 3,799, which is about $566. The top configuration is priced at CNY 4,999, or roughly $745. Color options were mentioned but not specified in the brief.

Positioning and global availability

The Pad 9 Pro is a scaled-down version of the Pad Pro Max, with a more affordable starting price than that model. It launched alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 phones and the Xiaomi Pad 9.

No concrete international release details have been shared. A global launch is expected with the Xiaomi 18 Pro series, but the company has not confirmed specifics.
